Our role: Process & strategy, stakeholder involvement, consensus building
Location: Sydney, Australia
Year: 2021
Status: Finished
This project focuses on informed consensus building in deciding on a preferred design option for a large intersection in Sydney, Australia. Decision-making was aligned with the TfNSW standard Value Management Process, ensuring inclusion of all relevant perspectives.
arki_lab’s role in the project has been stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation, data collection and analysis, as well as writing the final report.
Reaching a consensus
The intersection of Homebush Bay Drive and Australia Avenue is located within Homebush, Sydney. The existing intersection experiences significant daily congestion - a problem that is only going to be exacerbated as the population in the area grows over the coming years. All project stakeholders are interested in improving the existing conditions, but many different priorities and interests are at stake, complicating decision-making. A structured and engaging decision-making process is necessary in order to ensure all relevant parties are heard and included before an informed consensus among invested parties is reached.
Project components
Our work has entailed collating necessary material, facilitating a series of stakeholder engagement workshops using the arki_nopoly gameification tool, as well as data collection and analysis based on agreed-upon assessment criteria. The insights gathered were then used to reach an informed consensus on the recommended intersection design. Decision-making was structured in line with the Value Management Process, providing a clear framework for evaluation of the proposed designs. Finally, we compiled a report providing an overview of the process and results.
